WHY STUDY ABROAD? When you can study the language of the Qur’an in the peaceful Welsh countryside. Our Islamic Institute is privileged to offer the following residential courses:-
1. Arabic Language
Arabic, the language of the Qur’an, is absolutely essential for an in-depth understanding of Islam. On our full-time course, students learn how to speak, read and write fluently in Arabic.
- Arabic Language Certificate (1 Year)
- Arabic Language Diploma (2 Years)
Students can study Arabic for one or two years, according to requirements and many stay on to take the three-year Islamic Studies course which is taught primarily through the medium of Arabic. Applicants who have no formal qualifications are welcome to join the Arabic Language course, which runs every weekday and offers at least 20 contact teaching hours per week. Students also cover a further 10 hours of private study and revision. Individuals without relevant qualifications can study Arabic on our Open Programme, which follows the same curriculum but without the Diploma.
2. Islamic Studies/Shariah
Meaning literally ‘a path to water’, Shariah is the name for the religious law of Islam. Islam is a complete system, encompassing every aspect of a believer’s life.
- Certificate in Islamic Studies (1 Year)
- Diploma in Islamic Studies (2 Years)
- Higher Licence in Islamic Law (3 Years – BA equivalent)
- Correspondence Course in Islamic Studies
- M.A. and Ph.D. in Islamic Studies (coming soon)
- Licence for Inculcating the Holy Qur’an (coming soon)
As such, Islamic law covers a vast array of important, interconnected fields, from purely religious acts of worship to social, political and economic transactions. In this three-year course, which is equivalent to a BA degree, students are given a thorough grounding in the fundamental principles and practical application of Islamic law. A new Islamic Studies course is currently being designed that will be taught in English, with Arabic Language as a joint subject
3. Imam Diploma
This is a two-year course that aims to prepare the student for the Imamate and as such, some of the modules differ from those studied for the Islamic Studies course.
4. Short Summer Courses
Special short course in Beginners Arabic. These are scheduled according to demand so please do not hesitate in confirming your interest by contacting us.
